Where do I find its kWh per year?

On the yellow EnergyGuide label, as “Estimated Yearly Electricity Use” (often inside the door, or on the back or side). No label? Look up the model number on the appliance page if it’s still certified, or measure it with a plug-in energy meter for a week and multiply by 52.

FAQ

How do I calculate the cost of running an appliance?

Multiply its wattage by the hours you use it per day and divide by 1,000 to get kWh per day. Multiply by your electricity rate (the U.S. average is 18.16¢ per kWh in August 2026) to get the daily cost, then by 365 for a year. This calculator does it for you and shows the formula.

Where do the electricity rates come from?

Average residential rates for each state from the U.S. Energy Information Administration's Electric Power Monthly (August 2026). Your utility's rate may be higher or lower; you can enter your own rate from your bill.

Note: These are estimates. Real consumption depends on the exact model, its age, settings, room temperature and how you use it. For your exact number, check the appliance's label or measure it with a plug-in energy meter. Rates are August 2026 state averages from the EIA; check your bill for your actual rate. When powering appliances from a generator or power station, never exceed its rated output and follow the manufacturer's safety instructions.
